Our Mission

Our mission is simple yet profound: to preserve, protect, and celebrate the heritage of Hinsdale. Through exhibitions, educational programs, and a deep commitment to our community, we aim to inspire curiosity and foster a deep connection to our town's history.

Our Home

Located in the picturesque town of Hinsdale, our society is headquartered in the very heart of the history we cherish. The Col. Ebenezer Hinsdale Homestead, located at 609 Brattleboro Road, Hinsdale, NH 03451, serves as our cultural hub, housing a wealth of stories and artifacts that breathe life into our town's past.

We acknowledge with gratitude that we are located on the traditional homelands of the Abenaki people. We honor their enduring connection to this landscape and recognize the Abenaki Nation's historical and continued presence and contributions to the rich tapestry of this land. And, as we engage in preserving and sharing the history of Hinsdale, we commit to fostering respect and understanding for the diverse Indigenous cultures that have shaped and continue to enrich our shared heritage.

If you would like to learn more about the Abenaki people, please visit The Atowi Project website or Facebook page.

Dedicated Volunteers

Our work is made possible through the dedication of our volunteers. These history enthusiasts, each with their unique passion for the past, contribute their time and expertise to ensure that Hinsdale's rich history is well-preserved.

The Col. Ebenezer Hinsdale House is designated a Historic Property by the New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places.

The Hinsdale Historical Society is proud to partner with New Hampshire's Land and Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP).

About New Hampshire’s Land and Community Heritage Investment Program:

"The New Hampshire Land and Community Heritage Investment Program is an independent state authority created by the legislature in 2000. LCHIP’s legislative mandate is to ensure the perpetual contribution of natural, cultural and historic resources to the economy, environment, and quality of life in New Hampshire. LCHIP does this by providing matching grants to New Hampshire municipalities and non-profits to conserve and preserve the state’s most important natural, cultural and historic resources. The program has provided 530 grants which have helped to conserve close to 300,000 acres of land for food production, water quality, ecological values, timber management and recreation and has supported projects to study and rehabilitate 324 historic structures and sites. Grants have been awarded in all parts of the state and in 195 of New Hampshire’s 234 communities. Fifty-four million dollars of state money have led to a total project value of more than $312 million. The money for LCHIP grants comes from fees on four kinds of documents recorded at the Registry of Deeds in every county of the state."
